Big Time Gaming have become prominent lately with their ‘megaways’ engine games of 6 reels with varying rows giving a maximum of 117649 ways to win. Starquest slot bears this label and is best described as being a less brutal version of their Queen Of Riches slot.
We don’t get Egyptian iconography here though, but instead a space travel theme and thus instead of the smirking lady being disguised as Cleopatra, here she appears in a futuristic astronaut’s body suit when appearing as the stacked wild.

Like Queen Of Riches, Starquest slot has a very simple mechanic with no dedicated bonus round and therefore relies on an in-play feature for any excitement or anticipation. We see the trademark Big Time Gaming random reel rows which means that on any spin each reel will land displaying any number from 2 to 7 rows in view. This results in a minimum of 64 ways and maximum of 117649 ways to win with thousands of permutations in between.
We do see a notable difference with Starquest though – the pays will be awarded on consecutive reels from both left-to-right and right-to-left which is a nice touch when you’re used to seeing a spin effectively end before the third reel’s even stopped on a standard L-R format. The soundtrack is pretty basic as BTG tend to concentrate their efforts on the math model rather than graphics and sound effects but nevertheless it is easy on the ear and won’t grind the player down like Bonanza’s soundtrack has been known to.
So, what about the pays? Due to the both-way-pays format these are lower than other Megaways models starting at 0.4x bet for the 9’s and a mere 15x bet for the top icon, the Starquest Logo which is as usual on BTG slots the only one that pays 2-of-a-kind. As with the ultra-high volatility Queen Of Riches, the smiling lady forms the stacked wild and again only appears on reels 2-6. She pays only 1-way and usually only appears on one reel on any given spin. It is this though that is effectively the game’s only feature, an in-play one.
Any wild landing will trigger a respin with the wild reel being sticky and this is regardless of whether any win occurred when it landed. The multiplier of this sticky wild reel will increase to 2x for this repsin and then pay any win if one should appear. Should another wild appear in this repsin, that too becomes sticky with a 2x multiplier and the first wild will become a 3x multiplier and so-on. The maximum is a 5x multiplier so in order to achieve the best possible result you would need one wild reel to land on 5 consecutive spins to award you with a final respin consisting of a 2,3,4 and 2×5 multiplier sticky wild reels. This would mean at least 600 ways to multiply all symbols which landed on reel 1.
Starquest slot can theoretically award 10,000+ times your bet but the history of big wins to date shows a few of around 2-3000x which concurs with the fact the game is far less volatile than the Queen. The pay tables mention as an example that wilds are cumulative “2 of 5x wilds awards 25x” but as I explained above this scenario can only occur in the perfect spin I described above, so don’t be too tempted by BTG’s words. The game may be considered quite dull until the wild reel respins appear and they aren’t too frequent. The game is volatile so I would certainly advise you to adjust your stake accordingly!
